About RetroRenew

Not sure if this will be a rambling "About" page or a pithy, witty and humorous one. Where to start?

I'm Glen Gilchrist; child of 1972 who is slowly reverting to a creature of the 1970's and 80's.  I've always been fascinated by tape media. The idea that analogue (or digital) signals can be encoded on a moving strip of plastic coated with rust seems simultaneously magic and downright bizarre. Enter my fascination with tapes.

This morphed into 8-track cassette cartridges - mostly out of the joy of the retro and something akin to archaeology.  Find a broken cartridge, a few simple fixes and something 40-50 years old has a renewed life.

All that, but the album art was usually well worn.

So, I started to redesign the covers for the cassettes I owned.  Suitably different that the original so that they could not be mistaken for the real thing, but high enough quality that they look good on the shelf and in my 8-track player.

Eventually people asked me to share them, so here they are slowly being added to this site.
